Who pulls the permit

We pull the electrical permit for every job that needs one, in our name, and the permit fee is its own line on the written estimate. The building department of the town where the work is decides whether a job needs a permit, and we ask it before we quote. We book the inspection and meet the inspector at the house.

What a permit protects you from

A permit puts the electrical work on record with the town, and an electrical inspector (the town's own, or an inspection agency the town approves) looks at it before the job is signed off. Work done without a permit the town required can hold up the sale of a house or an insurance claim later, so the question is settled before the job starts.

Questions about licenses and permits

Who decides whether my job needs a permit?

The building department of the town or city where the work is. The rules differ from town to town, so we ask that office before we quote, and when it wants a permit the fee is a line on the estimate.

How do I check a license number?

Call the office named beside the license and give it the number. That office's own record is the one to trust.

Can I see the insurance certificate?

Yes. Ask for it on the phone or with the form on this page and a copy is sent before any work starts.

Who meets the inspector?

We do. We book the inspection the town requires and meet the inspector at the house. If the inspector asks for a change, we make it and book the next visit.
